About the Kansas Legislature - Interesting site from the Lawrence Journal World
which unfortunately has not been updated since 2005. Still has information about people and issues. For example, our house minority leader, Dennis McKinney, is from Greensburg
Mar. 6 - Leavenworth City Commissioner Laura Gasbarre announces she is running for the 40th Kansas House district as a Republican. She claims there has been no increase in property taxes during the 8 years she has been on the City Commission. A little research finds that City taxes were $6.32 million in 2000 and $9.96 million in 2007, an increase of 57.6%. The inflation rate for those years was only 20.4%. Even though taxes went up because of rising assessments, the responsibility still belongs to the Commission. Taxes for Leavenworth County, for example, decreased by 14.9% between 2005 and 2006 while City taxes went up by 4.2%.
